Local Myth of Parangtritis

According to local myth, Parangtritis is considered a sacred place. Many people believe that a spirit guardian named Kanjeng Nyi Roro Kidul, the queen of the south, protects the area. In Javanese tradition, the color green is strongly associated with Kanjeng Ratu Kidul, the mystical Queen of the Southern Sea, who is believed to rule the waters along Java’s south coast. People say that wearing green can attract her attention, and local stories warn that those who wear green might be “called” to the sea, which is seen as dangerous or unlucky. There is also a practical reason not to wear green at Parangtritis: if someone has an accident, green clothing makes it harder for rescue teams to find them in the water.
