Unlike the busier beaches nearby, Kayu Arum is quieter and perfect for those who want to enjoy nature. The beach gets its name from the Kayu Arum tree, which grows on the cliff above the ocean and is a popular spot for photos.
Entrance Ticket
The entrance fee is about IDR 5,000 per person. You can also rent a gazebo, with prices starting at around IDR 25,000.
*Please note that fees can change based on local rules and tourism policies.
Explore Kayu Arum Beach
The main attraction of Kayu Arum Beach is its combination of white sand, dramatic karst cliffs, and expansive views of the Indian Ocean. The iconic Kayu Arum tree growing on the rocky cliff edge provides a unique natural landmark that attracts photographers and nature enthusiasts.
Visitors can enjoy scenic viewpoints, explore the rocky coastline, relax by the beach, and capture panoramic views of the southern coastline. The area is especially beautiful during sunrise and sunset, when the cliffs and ocean are illuminated by warm natural light.
Getting There
Kayu Arum Beach is located in the Panggang area of Gunungkidul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, approximately 1.5–2 hours from Yogyakarta city center by vehicle. Access to the beach requires a short trek along a footpath and several downhill sections, so comfortable footwear is highly recommended. Due to the narrow roads leading to the area, motorcycles are often the most convenient mode of transportation, although cars can reach the nearby parking area before the final walk to the beach.
