Yogyakarta leaves lasting memories on everyone who visits. The city is famous for its culture, people, and art. Now, THE 1O1 Tugu Yogyakarta and Leeven & Co are hosting Sketsa Nusantara Chapter #4. This exhibition, held at the hotel and open to all guests until August 31, 2026, is supported by Indonesia’s Sketchers Jogja. It brings together 55 artists from 15 cities across Indonesia to celebrate cultural diversity through sketching.
On August 8 and 9, 1O1 Travel Sketch with Sketsa Nusantara will offer workshops that blend art, travel, and cultural exploration. The first workshop will teach Urban Sketching techniques, led by Augustinus Madya and Iqbal Amidha. Sudarman Angir, an architect and sketch painter, will also give a ‘Live Sketch’ demonstration to show how urban sketchers capture the unique character of a place in their art.
1O1 Travel Sketch: Preserving Kotagede as a Cultural Icon of Yogyakarta
This year, 1O1 Travel Sketch is highlighting Kotagede, a heritage area famous for its traditional Javanese architecture, historic alleys, and old houses, in partnership with Purbayan Tourism Village. Kotagede is one of Yogyakarta’s oldest neighborhoods and was once the center of the ancient Mataram kingdom.
The event also marked the 12th anniversary of THE 1O1 Tugu Yogyakarta. “Travel Sketch has been part of THE 1O1 Yogyakarta Tugu’s journey since 2018. Now in its fourth year, this program is our way of showing appreciation to the sketchers who have helped capture and share Yogyakarta’s story through their art. As we mark THE 1O1 Yogyakarta Tugu’s 12th anniversary, we want to keep providing a space that brings together art, culture, tourism, and community, so that every experience at this hotel is meaningful and goes beyond just a simple visit,” said Wahyu Wikan Trispratiwi, General Manager of THE 1O1 Tugu Yogyakarta.
With Sketsa Nusantara Chapter #4, THE 1O1 Yogyakarta Tugu, Leeven & Co., and Indonesia’s Sketchers Jogja are showing their ongoing support for the arts and creative community in Indonesia. This collaboration aims to create more opportunities for artists, cultural figures, and tourism professionals to connect and to help Yogyakarta become a place that people not only visit, but also experience and share through art.
